How Much is the Fuel Levy in Namibia?

The fuel levy in Namibia applies to drivers of private and public passenger cars, trucks, and buses. It also applies to drivers of motorcycles with an engine capacity of more than 125 cc, and mopeds with an engine capacity of more than 50 cc. The fuel levy rate was last changed on 1 November 2016 and the table below shows how much it costs to fill up your vehicle with fuel at the current level.

The fuel levy is a tax on petrol and diesel in Namibia

The fuel levy was introduced by the government of Namibia as a way to raise funds for public transportation and other related matters. The tax ranges from 0% to 10% on petrol and diesel, depending on the type of vehicle you are driving.

The fuel levy is used to finance the government’s environmental protection efforts

 Currently, the levy stands at N$1.5 per litre of petrol and diesel. Motorists are exempt from this levy if they use biodiesel. In 2012, during the 2012/2013 fiscal year, a total of N$2 billion was collected from motorists’ fuel levies to finance governmental efforts in environmental protection such as water resources management and natural resource management.
