WHO IS A FIREFIGHTER?
A Firefighter is professional trained personnel, who is trained in firefighting, primarily to extinguish hazardous fires that threaten life, property, and the environment as well as to rescue people and in some cases animals too from dangerous situations.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO BECOME A FIREFIGHTER IN NAMIBIA?
Here is what is needed of you in other to become a firefighter in Namibia;
1 Grade 12 Pass
2 Valid First Aid Certificate
3 Fire Fighting certificate NFPA 1001 & 1003 or equivalent
4 Valid Code CE drivers’ license
5 Three years relevant experience
6 Experience in a medium to large Airport firefighting services, with at least three years as a Fireman.
WHAT ARE THE CLASSES OR TYPES OF FIRE?
There are six classes of fire;
1 Class A- fires involving solid materials such as wood, paper or textiles.
2 Class B- fires involving flammable liquids such as petrol, diesel or oils.
3 Class C- fires involving gases
4 Class D- fires involving metals
5 Class E- fires involving live electrical apparatus.
6 Class F- fires involving cooking oils such as in deep-fat fryers.
