Potato prices depend on a number of factors, such as their country of origin, quality, and whether they’re organic or not. Generally speaking, imported potatoes are more expensive than domestically grown ones. Furthermore, the type and amount of chemicals used in farming can affect price–organic potatoes cost more because they have fewer pesticides applied to them during cultivation.

How have potato prices changed over time?

Potato prices have fluctuated drastically over the last year. As of January 2018, a bag of potatoes cost about $2.50 USD. In December 2017, the same bag cost about $5 USD. The highest price we found was $9 USD per kilogram, and the lowest price we found was $1.60 USD per kilogram. Potato prices are tied to supply and demand, as well as import tariffs imposed by government policies; they often change quickly with little warning.
