The Namibian author is a hardworking professional who has written at least one book. In order to feed their family and pay the bills, authors need to make a living off their writing. Unfortunately, there isn’t much money to be made in publishing compared to other industries like banking or technology. On average, American authors make approximately $100,000 per year while Namibian authors earn an average of $27K annually.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, on average, authors in Namibia make around $27,000 a year. This is significantly less than their American counterparts, who earn an average of $45,000 per year. However, it’s worth noting that authors in Africa as a whole are paid even less than those in Namibia: on average they earn just $20,000 per year.
You probably know that authors in Namibia are less well-paid than their American counterparts. In fact, on average they earn about 27,000 dollars a year—less than half what authors do in America. Why the discrepancy?
But it’s also important to remember that there are many factors involved in an author’s income and none of them can be generalized across all writers or all genres. So while it may be true that American authors make more money than Namibian ones (and vice versa), these numbers don’t tell us much about how much each writer earns individually; nor do they speak to either author’s level of success.
