Congratulations! You’re pregnant. Whether it’s your first baby or you’re expecting for the second time around, you’ll be delighted at the prospect of a new life growing inside you. You may also find yourself feeling a little nervous about what lies ahead – and that’s completely normal! What’s more, hundreds of thousands of pregnancies are affected by complications every year. So we’d love to help prepare you for any potential issues from day one, both physically and emotionally.
When is a scan first performed?
An early stage pregnancy ultrasound, sometimes called a viability or dating scan is performed at 7 weeks of pregnancy. It can be done earlier but in some cases it may not be possible to see the baby. The scan will show you whether you are pregnant and how far along you are with your pregnancy.
If you want to know if your baby is likely to survive outside of the womb at this early stage, then this is an important scan for you to have. It’s worth noting that an early term miscarriage (before 12 weeks) can occur as well as an ongoing pregnancy where there is no heartbeat at 12 weeks. In these cases, we recommend speaking to our team immediately so they can book in another appointment for further tests and scans.
Scan and report only (without consultation) – £100
A scan and report is a great way to confirm the pregnancy is progressing normally. You can have this done at any stage in your pregnancy, but it’s usually recommended as early as 10 weeks.
You will be able to see your baby on screen and hear their heartbeat, while getting a video of the whole procedure too! P
