If you’re looking to buy a farm in Namibia, you might be surprised at the variety of prices for land. There are many factors to consider when determining how much your property will cost:
How much does a farm cost in Namibia?
The price of land in Namibia varies depending on the type of farm, its location and its size. As with other African countries, the cost of land is lower than in Southern Africa.
As with most things in Namibia, you get what you pay for. If you are looking at an abandoned plot of land then it will be cheaper than if it is already cultivated or has some infrastructure on it.
Land prices in Namibia
Property prices in Namibia are affected by location, with rural areas being cheaper than urban and coastal regions.
For example, a typical farm size is 10 hectares (25 acres) or less and can cost as little as N$5000 an acre. In contrast, land costs in urban areas can be much higher.
In addition to the quality of the soil type and climate conditions of your area of choice, it may also be worth considering factors such as its proximity to major cities or tourist attractions—if you intend to rent out your land for these purposes—and whether there will be sufficient water sources nearby if you’re planning on planting crops.
Subsistence farms
Subsistence farming is a common form of agriculture in Namibia, and it’s easy to see why. You don’t need much money to start out with, and you can put your savings into land or livestock that will provide food for your family and create income from selling surplus produce.
The average cost of a subsistence farm varies depending on several factors: the area where you want to live, how many people will be working on the farm (if any), what level of technology you want to use for irrigation and fertilization, etc. The cheapest way to go would be buying land somewhere near the national parks so that wildlife can graze there without being shot by farmers who think they’re pests. This area is usually very cheap because no one wants it! With this method, however, there are some disadvantages…
Commercial farms
- Commercial farms are more expensive. The cost of a commercial farm depends on the size and location, but can be up to $3,000 per hectare. That’s about $1,000 per acre!
- Farmland prices can vary greatly from one area to another in Namibia. You should do your research and find out what is going on in each region before deciding where you want to live.
