It’s difficult to estimate the cost of giving Fidya because it depends on how many days you need to make up, how much you can afford, and which Fast you choose. If you want to give Fidya for missed days of Ramadan, the easiest way is to calculate 2.5% of your yearly income and give that amount as charity.
What is Fidya?
Fidya is a contribution that Muslims make to the poor and needy, or as an act of expiation for breaking the Fast. The amount varies according to how many days you need to make up, how much you can afford, and which Fast you choose. In Namibia, we have seen people giving as little as $10 and as much $100 per day. If you are unable to fast due to illness or pregnancy, then giving fidya is compulsory.
